What is an image to prompt generator?
An image to prompt generator is an AI tool that works in reverse of a normal text-to-image model: instead of turning words into a picture, it turns a picture into words. Upload any photo, illustration, or screenshot of AI art, and the tool analyses what makes that image look the way it does β the subject, the art style, the lighting, the color palette, the composition, and the camera or lens angle β then writes all of that back out as a dense, comma-separated prompt you can paste into Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, or DALL-E.
This is sometimes called image-to-prompt, img2prompt, or a reverse prompt generator. Whatever you call it, the goal is the same: skip the trial and error of writing an AI art prompt from a blank page, and instead start from an image that already has the look you want.
How the image to prompt generator works
It also suggests a negative prompt to help you avoid common artifacts like blurriness or extra limbs.
- 1
Upload an image
Drag and drop a photo, painting, or AI-generated image, or paste one from your clipboard.
- 2
AI analyzes the image
Our model identifies the subject, scene, art style, lighting, color grading, and composition.
- 3
Get a ready-to-use prompt
The result is formatted as a keyword-style prompt, the same structure used in Midjourney and Stable Diffusion communities, plus a suggested negative prompt.
- 4
Copy and generate
Paste the prompt into your AI image generator of choice and adjust keywords to fine-tune the result.

Lighting and mood
Golden hour, studio lighting, dramatic shadows, soft ambient light
Color palette

Composition and camera angle
Close-up, wide shot, low angle, rule of thirds
Negative prompt
Common artifacts to exclude, like blurry, extra limbs, or watermark
Common uses
- Recreate the style of a reference photo or artwork with AI image generators
- Reverse-engineer prompts from Midjourney or Stable Diffusion images you find online for inspiration
- Build a prompt library faster by starting from existing images instead of blank-page prompt writing
- Keep a consistent art style across a series of AI-generated images or a brand's visual identity
- Learn AI art prompt syntax by seeing how a real image translates into keywords
- Turn a mood board or inspiration photo into a usable Midjourney or Stable Diffusion prompt
Tips for better prompts
- Use a clear, high-resolution image β heavy compression or very small images give the AI less to analyze
- Choose reference images with an obvious single subject for the most focused prompt
- After generating, swap in your own subject while keeping the style, lighting, and composition keywords
- Always pair the prompt with the suggested negative prompt for cleaner results
- Regenerate a couple of times if the first image doesn't fully match β small keyword tweaks go a long way
Image to prompt vs. image description
Image to prompt
Outputs a keyword-style prompt meant to be fed back into an AI image generator so you can recreate or remix the look of the source image.
Image description
Writes plain-language sentences meant for people β useful for alt text, ESL practice, or photo captions.
